What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) and how can they help me?

An AEP is a university trained professional who specialises in health, fitness and rehabilitation. They are trained to use exercise as a rehabilitation tool, or a preventative strategy for disease prevention.

An AEP can help clients improve their health and wellbeing and reduce their risk of chronic disease through exercise. They will provide individualised programs and the education necessary for clients to make exercise a regular part of their lifestyle.

Individual consults – what to expect

When you visit Rebecca for an initial individual consult, she will complete a comprehensive assessment, including collecting information about your reason for referral, anthropometry (measurements such as weight, height and waist circumference), medical history, as well as social, lifestyle and exercise information. Based on this, Rebecca will provide you with recommendations for change, and together you will develop a realistic plan of action. If appropriate, education resources such as fact sheets will also be provided.

If necessary, this initial consult will be followed up by one or more review sessions. During these sessions, Rebecca will re-assess anthropometry and any exercise changes made. This is also a great opportunity for Rebecca to address any of your concerns and answer any questions you may have.
