Rebecca Downes Consulting (RDC) is bound by the National Privacy Principles as set out in the Privacy Amendment Act 2002. RDC is committed to securing the privacy of personal and sensitive information, and must comply with legal requirements.

Why information is collected

The information gathered by RDC is used to provide you with the best standard of care possible. The quantity of information you provide is at your discretion, however if RDC is not provided with adequate details, the standard of care provided may be lower.

Information disclosure

RDC does not, as standard, disclose any information to other organisations or persons, however may do so if there is a threat to your personal safety or health, or required to do so by federal, state or local law.

In order to provide optimal care, RDC believes it is beneficial to communicate with other health professionals also involved in your care. With your consent, RDC may communicate information from your records with those involved in your care. Information will not be disclosed to those not involved in your care. If you are a member of the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), the DVA could also request to see your medical records. If you do not wish for RDC to disclose your information to anyone, please contact RDC in writing.

Information storage

RDC uses an electronic record keeping system that is protected by firewalls, usernames and passwords to prevent unauthorised viewing, use or modification. Information is routinely backed up to prevent information loss. Any hardcopies are retained in a locked storage cabinet.

Accessing your records

You have the right to access any information stored about you. RDC will grant you access to your records on request, and will only deny access in very limited circumstance. Please note that ownership of the records belongs to RDC, and you will not be able to remove the records. Amendments to records can be made if they are deemed to be inaccurate. Reasons behind the amendment will also be recorded.
