EVENT MANAGEMENT
2022 Chief of Army Symposium

THE CHALLENGE
The 2022 Chief of Army Symposium (CAS) was a two-day event, bringing together senior and leading Defence personnel, stakeholders, Defence industry and international military guests.
Through it, Defence and industry come together to support information exchange and the sharing of ideas, and the development of Australian sourced technologies to ensure Army can meet the challenges of being Ready Now, Future Ready. Requiring graphic design and video support to augment an internal engagements team, RD Consulting delivered strategic and creative production for the coveted event.
THE SOLUTION
Over six weeks, our team worked closely with the Future Land Warfare engagements team to prepare creative collateral for the event. This included large scale event signage, invitations, website banners, event brochures and video to be played during the event.
To ensure a consistent look and feel across all collateral, our team coordinated with more than 10 event stakeholders. This required significant negotiation and the balancing of ideas and options, facilitated through a series of workshops that we hosted.
In preparation for the event, our team used Agile methodology to enable all stakeholders to closely collaborate through weekly syncs and frequent check-ins during the sprints.
The Symposium was hosted in Adelaide and our team provided around the clock assistance to organisers.
Videography strategy
To promote Army’s collaboration with the Defence industry at CAS 2022, RD Consulting was engaged to film and produce 96 interviews (vox-pops) across two days.
RD Consulting was tasked with filming and producing more than 100 hours of interview-based video footage and media coverage across the two days.
In the pre-production phase of this project, we produced a timetable and whereabouts of close to 100 participating interviewees from Defence and industry. Cross referencing these with event formalities, we created a final timetable of 96 interviews, slotted into 30-minute increments.
Part of this process included consulting with Expo Leads on requirements for their interviews. We also provided briefing packs containing information on what to expect on the day, where the interviews would be posted, how and when they would be made available, and tips on how to present to a camera.
The RD team of nine consultants comprised project managers, IT specialists, photographers and graphic designers. This was to augment a wider team of 22 contractors from the film industry.
RD Consulting was responsible for capturing:
- time lapse of exposition set up
- live demonstrations happening on the day
- interview with the exhibitors
- footage of exhibitor technology displays
- opening and closing speeches
- ARX safety briefing and demonstration
- QTC evaluations throughout the day.
After the event, our team compiled and edited together footage captured on the day. We created a catalogue for Defence and industry to access.

THE RESULTS
In six weeks, the team produced 96 vox pop interviews, an event trailer, and three sizzle reels. Our videos were supplied to Defence industry stallholders to share on their social media. Our material has been used to promote the commitment Army has made in collaborating with Defence industry to develop capabilities for future combat environments.
The successful delivery of event branding and supporting collateral contributed to the high regard for the Symposium.
