THE CHALLENGE

A corporate company, BAL Lawyers, reached out to RD Consulting to refresh their intranet within a short timeframe.

They needed to provide better access for staff to do their daily tasks, without requiring repeated requests.

The existing software being used was not fit-for-purpose – it had an outdated brand design, required complex updating, and attracted a costly monthly maintenance fee. There was also the requirement for the manager of the project to be able to manage user profiles on behalf of time-poor staff within the company.

THE SOLUTION

RD Consulting’s Senior SharePoint consultant met with the client to identify the objectives of the refresh, which were:

improved internal communication
a modern, well-designed interface
better usability, content management and consumption
cost savings where possible.

RD Consulting worked with the client and their IT provider to utilise SharePoint as part of their Office 365 suite, creating an immediate cost saving. IT staff at RD Consulting were also able to negotiate with the client’s IT provider to ensure that all appropriate access was made available to the relevant staff.

We then established their essential, desirable and senior management requirements. This included identifying a new information architecture, governance and the process of continual user testing, and using web analytics to identify content that was difficult to find or was no longer required.

RD Consulting worked together with the client at multiple sites, as well as remotely, creating a productive working relationship and a better understanding of each site’s communication style and priorities.
