THE CHALLENGE

Our challenge was to help Army define the current state, future state, and provide a gap analysis of workforce changes for more than 15 years across the three different functional areas.

THE SOLUTION

RD Consulting provided a team of strategic business advisors, academics, and data analysts to analyse the changing operating environment and review the current capabilities across government, Defence and specifically Army to determine future capability requirements.

These reviews included fundamental inputs to capability, including Organisation (structures) and Personnel (workforce management and individual training). With future force structures driving change requirements, the RD Consulting team also included HR training for subject matter experts.

RD Consulting delivered a thorough forensic analysis of capability output against current personnel; providing recommendations for recruitment, force design, workforce management and training to successfully ensure the achievement of a Ready Now, Future Ready workforce.

The key activities included:

  • reviewing current state and analysing people and establishment assets to identify gaps, relevant capabilities, associated courses, and proficiency overlaps
  • developing future-state workforce modelling of inputs and changes to visualise and understand the impacts of various options and their outcomes
  • conducting a gap analysis across various breakdowns, including level, capabilities, type, and location
  • summarisation and visualisation of data growth, contractions, gaps, risk areas and opportunities.

THE RESULTS

Our data analysis gave Army a vital understanding of the baseline of People capabilities and gaps and opportunities. RD’s data work modelled and tested the impact of various potential solutions and fed into what solutions were created.

Our team developed a comprehensive report with recommendations for a solution which informed the design and build of programs, processes and organisational systems which were included in the future development of Army.
